The "Spider Web" dress is so entitled because I was inspired by a similar design, at the center of which was beaded a spider. This, coupled with an old photograph of my grandmother wearing a similarly styled beaded dress in 1923.

The garnet colored beads are a mix of sizes and hues. I began by spinning the spider "web" first vertically, then horizontally. Once I had the dress partitioned, I worked a different pattern in each row of boxes, horizontally, one row at a time. No two rows are alike. The fabric is a sheer burgundy organza over a flesh-colored bias-cut Dior slip made to fit snug against the body. When you put this on, you can hear the music playing upstairs in the Cotton Club...
